Messing with a Nigerian Scammer

So, it seems that people in Nigeria seem to think that we are all idiots.... or maybe they just think that Americans are idiots and can't tell the difference. Well, it seems that they are starting to learn a lesson about that, because people like me are starting to mess with them and teach them a lesson that they will never forget. Here is the first of many emails from me messing with email scammers:

As I told you, there is millions worth of gold in the chest and I would not risk losing that. Free Magazines - Must Read!

A few years ago, I found that my local library started some online services. Since then, the services have been steadily increasing, and now it has gotten so good that I don't need to buy any books or magazines ever again. 

How does it work? You need a library card and PIN, and then your local library has a bunch of different apps you can get to access the resources. I went to my library and got a PIN on my card, downloaded the apps, and got free magazines. That's it. Nothing else. The service is amazing, it even has magazines from all around the world. I used to spend $20-$30 a month on magazines and now I never have to buy one ever again!

Stuff I find on my way to work

When I walk to work in the morning, I have to cross under a bridge to get to downtown. Seems like a pretty boring commute, a whole lot of concrete, some steal and the odd graffiti tag that is boring at best (see previous post about getting rid of graffiti for good). Yet, I take great pleasure in my walk and really cannot wait to start my morning commute. Why you ask? Because I get to see the aftermath of the parties that took place there the night before. You see, downtown Regina is among the worst crime ridden wastelands in the North America. Even better, there is a Casino right in the middle of downtown. Right beside that Casino, is this bridge. It is the premiere place for the lowest of the low go to 'keep the party going.'

So what is so entertaining? Well, generally it is just looking at what people leave behind after the party. I walk this path at the end of each day, and again at the beginning of the next day, so you know that the stuff left behind was left there at night. Now I am not going to talk about the normal things like broken beer bottles, empty bottles of booze, or even used needles (and trust me these are common), but it is the little unexpected things that are the most entertaining.

So what are we talking about, here is a list of the most memorable things:

-Balled-up hospital underwear- You know what I am talking about, disposable underwear from the hospital, with the green hospital stripe on it. Unmistakable if you have ever seen them. Apparently, someone decided half-way through the tunnel that they didn't need their hospital underwear anymore? Why hospital underwear? There are just so many questions. I also find it interesting that they took the time to ball them up after taking them off. It's like they were making a point that they were done with them for good!

-Unmovable bike- left halfway through the bridge path. I guess someone was carrying it somewhere and then just gave up halfway through. Not sure how or why they would make it as far as they did. The wheels were wrecked and the brake was hanging into the spokes so it could not roll, that's for sure.

-Horrible weapon- Someone made a weapon out of some old door molding. Keep in mind that this is old stuff, so it was extremely brittle and thin. They put a grip on it and everything. Unfortunately, whoever used this weapon was likely very disappointed with the results.

-Spine - in all fairness, this was a little off the regular path, but still one of the best. Too big to be a dog's spine, and too small to be a cow (if there was a butcher nearby). I did actually call the police about this one, they looked into it, and said it was not human. Who knows what it was from...

-Used Tampon- I am not sure what is most disturbing about this, the fact that someone decided half-way through going under a bridge that they no longer needed this, or the fact that it got more and more dirty as the days went on - meaning that people were walking on it and not taking care to avoid walking on the used tampon.

What will I find next, I can't wait to find out!

Troll gets Trolled on eBay

I like to do create funny auctions on eBay every now and then. Not to make money, but just to try to get a few cheap laughs. In my most recent auction, I made a fake championship ring for our city's football team and put it up for auction for $1000. It got more than 5000 hits and ton of people emailing me to tell me how funny it was. Now, of course, there are some trolls out there that will email and say something stupid, so I decided to have some fun with the most recent one.

Troll email: "why are you stupid?"

My response was "You raise an interesting point. One must question the causation of intelligence. Under most circumstances, I would quote the standard debate between nature and nurture, but I can tell that is not what you mean. Another consideration is the type of intelligence that a person is contemplating. Really, there are numerous kinds of intelligence. Emotional intelligence is often considered to be one of the most important. Again, there are many others that may or may not be relevant to the situation. Notwithstanding the types of intelligence and the debate between nature and nurture, the real question is whether or not someone has the emotional intelligence to rationalize their actions. Is there a reason someone would feel it necessary to lash out at someone because of their auction? Do they have the emotional intelligence to see the rationale behind the decision. I can only assume that there are other issues behind the decision. Only the person knows the answer. Thank you for the food for thought."

His response was priceless, and really indicative of his understanding of my email:
"No need to write a bunch of crap to try to sound smart. You're stupid for trying to charge $1000 dollars for a piece of aluminum foil. Even if it's meant as a joke. Still stupid. And I'm not lashing out you fuc*ing fuc*tard!"

Now, I should explain that although I am very proud of my answer and how I turned the response around to allow him to take ownership of his own feelings; I should also note that I did include a little bit of a hidden message in my response. If you look at the first letter of each sentence, you will see that they spell out a special message for this gentleman. In the end, I don't think he understood any of it at all. Kind of sad.
